Laryngeal Cancer

Staging of Laryngeal Cancer

The stage describes the tumour's site and spread, and it sets the language of treatment. MRI or CT joins the planning where needed.

Diagnosis and staging

The larynx can be seen directly at the visit with a slim endoscopic camera. If a suspicious area is found, a biopsy is planned; MRI or CT is used for staging where needed.

The stage sets the language of treatment. In early disease the aim is usually to treat while preserving the voice; in advanced disease the plan is built together with oncology and radiation oncology.
